About The Position
The Public Relations & Social Media Intern gains hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of the Reading Fightin Phils Public/Media Relations department. The intern creates written and visual content, supports local and visiting media, and helps tell the club’s story through homestand programs, the website, and social media channels. The position is intended as a learning opportunity for upperclassmen and recent college graduates interested in Minor League Baseball. The Reading Fightin Phils are the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies and play at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The club is part of Diamond Baseball Holdings, which owns and operates Minor League Baseball clubs and venues and offers opportunities for professional growth and career advancement in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as an upperclassman or a recent college graduate.
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of baseball, statistics, and scorekeeping.
- Experience creating content for social media platforms.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Team-minded, with the ability to work independently and as part of a group.
- Professional communication skills when working with media members.
- Willingness to learn and try new things.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, including all home games.
Nice To Haves
- Communications, journalism, sports media, or marketing background preferred.
- Experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred.
Responsibilities
- Create written content for R-Phils homestand programs and the website.
- Create social media content across the club’s channels.
- Create graphics for marketing materials.
- Help coordinate and fulfill interview requests from media members.
- Operate the pitch clock during games.
- Research statistics.
- Maintain pressbox offerings.
- Assist with lineup and stat distribution.
- Assist with other Public/Media Relations tasks as they arise.
- Assist front office staff with other tasks as they arise.
- Shadow and learn about other departments.
- Perform job tasks in compliance with the philosophy, policies, goals, and budget of the Reading Fightin Phils.
