About The Position

This position is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students with practical experience in PVAMU Extension programming, Family & Community Health education, applied research, and community outreach. Interns will work alongside Family & Community Health staff to support educational programs and demonstrations across Texas.

Requirements

  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
  • No prior experience necessary
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours for the fall/spring terms.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work collectively and cooperatively with all individuals and families.
  • Ability to travel throughout Texas as assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • College student having completed sophomore year and currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Major in Nutrition, Dietetics, Education or a closely related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Canva, Adobe, and other applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, execution, and evaluation of Family & Community Health educational programs, workshops, field days, meetings, and other activities.
  • Support county FCH staff with program implementation and educational activities throughout Texas.
  • Assist with applied research projects, food demonstrations, data collection, participant data, program evaluations, and impact reporting.
  • Prepare educational materials such as fact sheets, presentations, newsletters, news releases, social media content, and promotional materials.
  • Participate in field visits related to nutrition, life skills, health and wellness, and money management.
  • Represent PVAMU, PVAMU Extension, and the FCH Unit professionally when interacting with youth, young adults, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for statewide Extension meetings, events, trainings, and program activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the goals and operations of the FCH Unit.
