About The Position

This is an internship opportunity with Pima County Superior Court Pretrial Services' (PTS) Assessment Office or Supervised Release Office. The general focus of the summer intern is to provide the opportunity to work in a structured criminal justice setting and develop professional-caliber skills related to conducting interviews, assessing information, and preparing reports and recommendations. Interns will interview pretrial defendants, conduct background investigations, and assist in the preparation of bail recommendations and/or supervision performance notifications for the Court. The Pretrial Services Assessment Office conducts assessments for setting bail conditions for pretrial defendants arrested in Pima County, supporting initial appearance hearings held twice daily, 365 days a year. The Pretrial Services Supervised Release Office monitors pretrial defendants released pending trial, assisting officers with court date reminders, managing defendant contact requirements, and preparing supervision performance notifications.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a four-year degree program as a Junior or Senior
  • Must be at least 20 years of age
  • Must have no Felony Convictions
  • Must agree to submit to fingerprinting and criminal history check
  • Must agree to sign a "No Hostage" waiver for the Sheriff's Department
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide documentation of eligibility on the first day of employment
  • Basic skills to operate a desktop computer using Windows based or Microsoft Office software
