About The Position

This posting is for the purpose of collecting resumes for students interested in an Electrical Engineering internship opportunity with Consumers Energy. Opportunities could include summer 2027 Internships, fall or Co-Op (part-time year-round). Current college students of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and design/development for various engineering aspects of our business. This could include work in energy delivery – electric engineering, gas engineering, energy operations, and more – all while helping create a better tomorrow for the communities we serve! In addition to working alongside full-time employees carrying out the engineering function for Consumers Energy, Engineering Interns will have the option to participate in a number of additional optional events within the program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked philanthropic event, the Intern Challenge. Electrical Engineering Intern assignments may include opportunities in: Low Voltage Distribution Planning, Distribution Standards and Materials, High Voltage Distribution Lines Design and Standards, Instrumentation & Control, Design, and Standards, Low Voltage Distribution Engineering, Substation Design and Standards, System Control & Monitoring, Plant Engineering, Project Engineering, System Engineering, and many more. The Engineering Internship/Cooperative Assistant Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for Engineering and an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The Engineering Internship/Co-Op Program at Consumers Energy has core principles of skill development, ability enhancement, and knowledge application – an experience designed to be complementary to traditional classroom instruction.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a specific focus in Electrical Engineering.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Engineering at an ABET school.
  • Currently pursuing a Master's in Engineering at an ABET school.
  • Currently pursuing an Engineering-related Master's while having completed a Bachelor's in Engineering at an ABET school.
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.7 or higher.
  • Must be within a commutable distance from the assigned location(s) or willing to find accommodations.
  • Not eligible for immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, etc.).
  • Not eligible for CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT.

Responsibilities
