About The Position

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is seeking an Electrical Engineer co-op to join their Hardware Engineering team. This role involves working on the electrical engineering aspects of product design, including component selection, thermal management, and antenna design. The co-op will collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Product Management, PD, FW, EPM, NPI, and Hardware leadership, as well as internal and external partners like the Supply Chain team, laboratories, and JDM design resources. The position is based in the San Francisco office, with a hybrid work model (in-office Tuesdays-Thursdays, remote Mondays and Fridays). Relocation and housing support are provided. The co-op duration is from January to June 2027.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Second or third-time co-op or Master level co-op students.
  • Target graduation timeline is May-June 2026.
  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months of full-time co-op employment.
  • University must support the co-op experience.
  • Prior intern or co-op experience working on high-volume hardware programs.
  • Solid fundamentals in digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Schematic and layout knowledge in Altium or Cadence or CAD/Allegro.
  • Ability to navigate tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
  • Hands-on experience with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers.
  • Knowledge of cameras, sensors, WiFi, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, antennas, and batteries.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive independent work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship and/or co-op experience.
  • Ideally, a junior year undergraduate student.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the EE aspects of product design based on feasibility, design, and cost studies.
  • Select key components, manage thermals, and design antennas.
  • Work directly with customers to ensure industry-leading product design.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, PD, FW, EPM, NPI, and Hardware leadership to make tradeoffs.
  • Share expertise with other engineers.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners, including the Supply Chain team, laboratories, and JDM design resources.
  • Contribute to shipping successful product lines.
  • Conduct research on the latest silicon possibilities.
  • Evaluate system feature tradeoffs and create system specifications.
  • Assemble EVKs, board hacks, or quick-turn fabrications for evaluating concepts.
  • Take a concept from block diagram to schematics and through layout, potentially with JDM resources.
  • Create a validation plan for each phase of product development and characterize the electrical system.
  • Find the root cause of design inefficiencies and field failures, and improve designs.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles.
