About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The company is committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy 24/7. This position is for current college students of all levels who will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and design/development for various engineering aspects of the business. This could include work in energy delivery – electric engineering, gas engineering, energy operations, and more. The role offers opportunities to work alongside full-time employees and participate in additional optional events within the program, such as intern networking events, company tours, and the Intern Challenge. This posting is for collecting resumes for students interested in an Electrical Engineering internship opportunity with Consumers Energy, with potential opportunities for summer 2027 Internships, fall or Co-Op (part-time year-round). Requirements

  • Actively enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a specific focus in Electrical Engineering.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Engineering at an ABET-accredited school.
  • OR currently pursuing a Master's in Engineering at an ABET-accredited school.
  • OR currently pursuing an Engineering-related Master's while having completed a Bachelor's in Engineering at an ABET-accredited school.
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.7 or higher.
  • Must be within commutable distance from the assigned location(s) or willing to find accommodations.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, etc.).
  • Not eligible for CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support and design/development for various engineering aspects of the business.
  • Work in areas such as energy delivery – electric engineering, gas engineering, energy operations, and more.
  • Participate in optional program events including intern networking events, company tours, and the Intern Challenge.
  • Opportunities may include Low Voltage Distribution Planning, Distribution Standards and Materials, High Voltage Distribution Lines Design and Standards, Instrumentation & Control, Design, and Standards, Low Voltage Distribution Engineering, Substation Design and Standards, System Control & Monitoring, Plant Engineering, Project Engineering, System Engineering, and more.
