About The Position

Calgary Economic Development (CED) is an opportunity-maker, helping to spark and fuel Calgary’s growth. Their role is to connect people with resources that can help them grow their careers or businesses, thrive in new locations or markets, and feel at home in the community. They offer information to help everyone succeed and promote Calgary, in Canada and around the world. The Business Development Officer will work with the Business Development team in supporting the processes related to business retention, expansion, attraction/investment and trade to the Calgary region. This is a 10-week Term.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education (Business, Economics, International Relations, or related field).
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Youth hired for a Canada Summer Job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laid-off and are awaiting recall, employees on vacation, employees on maternity or parental leave.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible participants.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Manage logistics for outbound and inbound investment missions, including site tours, event schedules, meetings with companies and government officials, and preparation of marketing materials.
  • Conduct research on economic, demographic, and industry trends to support client materials and business case development.
  • Perform market assessments to identify growth opportunities and competitive positioning.
  • Utilise advanced research tools and AI-driven analytics to target potential investment leads for lead generation.
  • Develop and maintain prospect lists using data-driven insights and digital tools.
  • Support outreach strategies to engage high-potential investors and partners.
  • Reconcile and maintain accurate records in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including data input, imports, and generation of relevant reports.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency to improve team productivity and decision-making.
  • Create and maintain project dashboards to track progress, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Implement productivity improvements through automation and integration of AI and digital tools across workflows.
