About The Position

The Immunization Project is a research-focused department within the hospital, dedicated to studying acute respiratory illness and gastroenteritis in hospital staff and patients. The team, comprising over 20 individuals, engages with patients across various settings, including the Texas Medical Center, Texas Children’s Pediatrics clinics throughout the Houston area, outpatient, EC, and inpatient environments. The department aims to foster professional growth by enhancing communication skills with children and families, improving medical English and Spanish terminology through screening and chart review, and increasing literacy in vaccines and prevention products via the verification process. Their research, conducted within the CDC network, is crucial for disseminating current information on regional and national pathogens and evaluating the efficacy of prevention products like flu, rotavirus vaccines, and RSV prevention products.

Requirements

  • Required enrollment in a bachelor's program
  • Must be able to commit to position for a minimum of 1 year

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred healthcare experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and assists with special projects for the department leadership and/or project sponsor by agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Meets with families and children to explain Immunization Research Projects and gain buy in to participation.
  • Collect patient history and survey information.
  • Collects lab specimen samples as required.
  • Willing to travel to different Texas Children's Pediatric Clinics and work on Main Medical Campus in locations as assigned.
  • Completes comprehensive analysis as assigned.
  • Attends other regularly scheduled and required meetings as appropriate (e.g., standing committees, ad hoc committees, meetings specific to current internship, project meetings).
