About The Position

In this position you will work as a key team member of the Toronto-Vaughan Materials Testing Laboratory team located in Vaughan, ON. The successful candidate will be mentored by a variety of highly specialized professionals and will gain valuable experience in the consulting industry. This intermediate/ senior fulltime position will provide comprehensive training in health and safety as well as performing materials testing on various construction materials such as Soils, Aggregates, Concrete & Rock Cores. There is a strong requirement for QA/QC procedures, coordination of project testing, reporting, and teamwork. This opportunity will introduce you to a great team, helping you build key skills that you will need as an Intermediate Geotechnical Materials Laboratory Technician, specifically the application of material properties in construction. Your role To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering Technology Programs.
  • 2-3 years minimum applicable laboratory experience (familiarity with Geotechnical and Materials testing protocols).
  • 2-3 years’ experience conducting testing of Soils & Rock for engineering properties including but not limited to: Atterberg Limits, Hydrometers, Sieves, Moisture Contents, Visual Classifications, advanced lab testing of Various (Triaxial tests, Direct Shear, Consolidation and Permeability tests) Slake Durability, Point Load Testing etc.
  • Capability to calibrate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform routine repair to laboratory instrumentation to ensure they operate at an optimal level.
  • Available to work weekends on short notice.
  • Ability to work and travel throughout the Province of Ontario (if required).
  • Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules on short notice.
  • Capable of regularly lifting 25 kg test samples as required by the applicable test procedure.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting materials testing in accordance with OPSS (Ontario Provincial Standards), AASHTO (The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) on various materials such as Soils, Aggregates, Concrete & Rock, etc.
  • Highly organized, and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Effectively communicating test results to the Laboratory Team Lead & Principal Engineer in verbal and written form, timely and effectively.
  • Participate in functional team activities including safety, housekeeping, training, ordering and maintaining supplies for the laboratory, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
