About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Materials Lab Technician to join their growing CCIL-certified geotechnical laboratory in Concord. This role is instrumental in executing field and laboratory testing to support foundation design, construction projects, and site development evaluations. The position ensures that all subsurface materials and engineered fills meet stringent project specifications and regulatory requirements. By working closely with project engineers and field crews, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance, safety, and operational efficiency both within the laboratory and out in the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven hands-on experience in geotechnical investigations, laboratory materials testing, and field operations monitoring
  • Proficiency with industry-specific software (such as gINT and Geo Software), AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel and Word)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and effectively manage project schedules

Nice To Haves

  • Active CCIL certification for Soil, Aggregate, and Asphalt is considered an asset
  • Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification for the proper use and oversight of nuclear gauges is an asset.
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or active membership with OACETT is a strong asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, and asphalt, including sieve analysis and compaction tests, while ensuring strict adherence to CCIL standards.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory and field testing equipment to ensure accurate functionality and prevent operational delays.
  • Conduct in-situ testing, soil sampling, and assist with borehole drilling operations during comprehensive geotechnical investigations.
  • Monitor the placement and compaction of engineered fill materials, which involves conducting field density and moisture content tests.
  • Safely handle and operate nuclear density gauges for field compaction testing, always complying with radiation safety protocols and best practices.
  • Implement quality control processes, accurately document real-time test results, and prepare reliable data reports for project engineers and clients.
