About The Position

Friends Select School is seeking a full-time Interim Upper School Mathematics Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year, beginning in August 2026. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator capable of teaching a broad range of high school mathematics courses. They should be able to engage students at both the introductory and advanced levels, with comfort teaching Algebra I through Precalculus. Experience teaching higher-level courses, including Calculus and upper-level electives, is preferred. In addition to classroom teaching, the candidate will be expected to serve as an advisor, participate in committee and extracurricular responsibilities, and contribute to the overall school community. Friends Select values teachers who utilize the city of Philadelphia as an extension of the classroom and who foster meaningful connections with community institutions. The position requires a collaborative spirit, strong content knowledge, and a commitment to academic excellence and student growth.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 2 or more years of high school mathematics teaching experience
  • Strong ability to teach a wide range of math courses and challenge students at academic levels
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students of varying abilities
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team of educators
  • Interest in using urban resources to enhance learning and extend education beyond the classroom

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in mathematics or a related field preferred
  • Experience teaching higher-level courses, including Calculus and upper-level electives, is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach all levels of high school mathematics, from Algebra I through Precalculus
  • Contribute to the development, support, and potential expansion of upper-level mathematics electives based on student interest and departmental needs
  • Advise students and contribute to their academic and personal development
  • Participate actively in school life, including student advising, club and committee involvement, and general faculty duties
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a supportive, academically rigorous learning environment
  • Engage with the city as an extension of the classroom, building relationships with local institutions to enrich the student experience
