About The Position

The Integrated Systems Planning and Portfolio Senior Analyst / Consultant serves as a key strategic integrator of planning information across Resource Planning, Transmission Planning, New Generation, Finance, Operations and other business functions, ensuring planning assumptions, portfolio investments, trade-offs and strategic priorities are represented in a coordinated and executable long-term system plan. Reports to the Manager of Integrated System Planning (ISP) and supports the development, maintenance and governance of APS's Integrated System Plan. Evaluates portfolio-level impacts, risks, dependencies, opportunities and emerging issues that influence strategic planning, capital investment and resource allocation decisions. Provides strategic narratives, analytical insights, scenario evaluations and decision-support recommendations that strengthen planning defensibility, enabling leadership to align priorities and make informed portfolio-level decisions. Functions with substantial independence and is responsible for leading cross-functional planning efforts, developing strategic recommendations and influencing decisions related to long-term system planning, investment priorities and portfolio execution.

Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelors Degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, accounting or other job-related field from an accredited college or university
  • Plus five (5) years related experience in strategic planning, business analysis, reporting, project management and/or consulting.
  • In lieu of bachelors degree, combination of college coursework and/or experience in business analysis, reporting, project management, strategic planning, consulting and/or communications equaling 9 years.
  • Three (3) years of electric utility industry experience (e.g., public utility, energy development and/or other relevant role), including experience supporting utility planning, resource planning, transmission planning, capital portfolio planning, system operations and/or utility asset acquisition and contracting activities and/or other directly related experience.
  • A four-year Bachelors Degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, accounting or other job-related field from an accredited college or university
  • Plus seven (7) years related experience in strategic planning, business analysis, reporting, project management and/or consulting.
  • In lieu of bachelors degree, combination of college coursework and/or experience in business analysis, reporting, project management, strategic planning, consulting and/or communications equaling 11 years.
  • Five (5) years of electric utility industry experience (e.g., public utility, energy development and/or other relevant role), including experience supporting utility planning, resource planning, transmission planning, capital portfolio planning, system operations, utility asset acquisition and contracting activities and/or other directly related experience.

  • Knowledge of the electric utility industry including knowledge of ACC and FERC regulation; generation, transmission and distribution engineering parameters; competitive wholesale electric and gas commodity markets and behaviors; and both regional and national energy trends.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and evaluates the collection, validation, integration and maintenance of planning assumptions, forecasts, portfolio data and business inputs from Resource Planning, Transmission Planning, New Generation, Finance, System Operations and other stakeholders supporting APS's Integrated System Plan (plan of record).
  • Synthesizes cross-functional planning information to analyze, assess and validate assumptions, resource plans, transmission plans, capital project portfolios, load forecasts, schedule dependencies and other strategic business inputs to assess impacts on reliability, affordability, execution feasibility and plan defensibility.
  • Independently identifies and evaluates portfolio-level implications, trade-offs, risks, gaps, dependencies, constraints and emerging issues that may affect the development and execution of the Integrated System Plan.
  • Leads development and coordination of scenario analyses and sensitivity studies to assess impacts of changing assumptions on the Integrated System Plan.
  • Develops and maintains planning tools, assumption logs, portfolio summaries, planning databases and reporting systems that provide visibility into plan assumptions, defensibility, portfolio changes, risks, dependencies and planning outcomes.
  • Assists in developing executive reporting, presentations, briefing materials and decision-support tools by providing analytical findings, scenario results, portfolio assessments and recommended actions to support leadership decision-making.
  • Supports ISP governance and change-management processes associated with the Integrated System Plan through documentation of key assumptions, interdependencies, decisions, impacts, action items and portfolio changes.
  • Participates in cross-functional project teams and planning initiatives to drive organizational alignment.
  • Monitors industry, regulatory and technology developments that may influence APS's long-term planning strategy, portfolio priorities, investment decisions and planning assumptions.
