About The Position

The New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) is seeking a 12-Month Bilingual Intake Specialist. NMILC is a social justice organization dedicated to advancing equity and justice by empowering low-income immigrant communities through collaborative legal services, advocacy, and education. Each year, NMILC provides direct legal representation and assistance in immigration matters to thousands of immigrants and advocates for laws and policies that respect immigrant rights. NMILC's model emphasizes building relationships with local, state, and national organizations and governmental institutions to expand access to legal services for historically marginalized immigrant communities. The Intake Specialist will serve immigrants in New Mexico by providing screening, information, and referrals to callers, working directly with clients to prepare their immigration cases, assisting legal representatives in case preparation, and supporting the administrative functions of a busy non-profit organization. This role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and collaborate closely with staff and volunteers. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, compassionate, patient, and enjoys direct client interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial screening, information, and referrals to immigrants in need of assistance (phone and in-person).
  • Gather information and data to verify eligibility for services, summarize prospective client’s legal problems, and document requests for services.
  • Apply NMILC eligibility guidelines, priorities, and current case acceptance availability to evaluate the level of assistance that can be offered.
  • Work directly with immigrant clients and NMILC’s legal representatives to prepare immigration cases.
  • Enter required client data into the case management system (Legal Server).
  • Assist the Remote Workshop Team in providing assistance to community members with various immigration matters, including citizenship, green card renewals, and DACA.
  • Respond to incoming telephone calls related to the Remote Workshop Program.
  • Make outgoing telephone calls as needed by the Remote Workshop Program.
  • In collaboration with the Remote Workshop Managerial Team, support the maintenance of systems for legal files, including Legal Server, Dropbox, and paper files.
  • Provide large-scale print, mailing, and filing assistance to Remote Workshop program legal staff to ensure timely completion of jobs.
  • Provide file maintenance, storage, and retrieval assistance to Remote Workshop program staff, including both physical and electronic file management.
  • Perform legal program administrative tasks to support the efficiency of the non-profit, including logging incoming client mail, sending requested packets, and returning client calls under supervision.
  • Provide support to the reception desk by answering phone calls, greeting guests, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely file maintenance and data entry into the case management system, adhering to NMILC protocols and best practices.
  • Ensure programmatic compliance with grant requirements, allocation, and reporting.
  • Ensure all Time and Attendance Reports are accurate, adhere to program and grant funding guidelines, and are completed in a timely manner.
  • Perform data entry as assigned.
