Mel Trotter Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides safe shelter and supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Intake Specialist provides a welcoming, steady presence during the overnight shift, helping guests enter the shelter, connect with services, and maintain a calm, clean, and secure environment. The role involves greeting and directing guests, visitors, and vendors; coordinating with Triage Specialists and Case Managers; conducting perimeter checks and screening entries for prohibited items; monitoring cameras and radio traffic; using trauma-informed de-escalation; and requesting medical or law-enforcement support when needed. The Intake Specialist also assists with basic needs and scheduled activities, supports clinic, sobering, and detox requests, and completes accurate digital shift reports. The schedule is four consecutive 10-hour overnight shifts each week, including Saturdays and Sundays, followed by three days off. The stated third-shift hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The work includes time at the entry desk, rounds through the facility, monitoring, documentation, resetting shared spaces, and coordinating handoffs with teammates.
