About The Position

In essence, an insurance verification specialist is responsible for verifying accurate insurance benefit information in a timely manner. The position may be located in physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities. Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Understanding medical terminology, medical billing practices, and HIPAA privacy regulations.
  • Ability to clearly explain financial responsibilities to patients and negotiate with insurance carriers.
  • Proficiency in practice management software, web-based payer portals and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to be self-directed in accomplishing the coordination and decision-making responsibilities of this position and be resourceful in problem solving.
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations, billing, and reimbursement requirements.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, MA, HMO, and insurance coverage determinations, including Medicare secondary payer information.
  • Basic understanding of ICD-10 coding concepts and resources

Nice To Haves

  • bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years of billing and reimbursement experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contacting insurance carriers or utilizing payer portals to verify active coverage, deductibles, co-pays, and network status prior to appointments.
  • Notifying patients of their out-of-pocket costs, explaining coverage details, and setting up payment arrangements.
  • Clear communication of patient benefit information relayed to intake and billing teams.
  • Accurately updating billing systems and electronic health records (HER) with verified demographic and insurance policy data.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, provider offices, and insurance companies to resolve billing discrepancies or missing information.
  • Perform other duties that fit with your training and background experience or provide further training for new duties.
