About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for the course ITAL 2Q95 Winter D3, titled 'Queer Stories in Italy and the West'. The course will be delivered face-to-face during the Winter term on Mondays from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The compensation is effective September 1, 2026, with a rate of $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally) or $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally). Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in Italian Studies with a specialization in Italian Gender/Sexuality/Diversity Studies, or Italian Cultural Studies or Literary/Cultural Studies with some focus on sexual and gender diversity in Italy.
Record of sustained successful teaching of upper-year courses in Italian literary or cultural studies, sexual/gender/diversity studies, queer theory or transdisciplinary studies at the University level.
Commitment to intersectional pedagogy, anti-racism, inclusion, and decolonization/re-Indigenization.
Native or near-native fluency in English.
Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence at University level specifically Italian gender/sexuality/diversity studies or cultural and literary studies.
Official student and peer evaluations.
Teaching dossier or statement of teaching philosophy that highlights the candidate’s commitment to intersectional pedagogy, anti-racism, inclusion, and decolonization/re-Indigenization.
Sample syllabus for the course.
At least two references.
Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision.
Responsibility in all aspects of course work: course development; careful test and exam preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking.
Coordination with Italian Program Coordinator.
Expected integration of web-based and multimedia teaching/learning tools.
Use of email, SAKAI/Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures).
Commitment to meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the delivery of the course.
Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exam.

Responsibilities

Scheduled contact time with students
Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
Working closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator
Integration of web-based and multimedia teaching/learning tools
Use of email, SAKAI/Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
Responsible time management, including course structuring and punctuality for lectures
Meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the delivery of the course
Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
