About The Position

Belmont University is seeking applications for a faculty position in Applied Commercial Music, Voice. This role can be either tenure-track (Assistant Professor) or non-tenure track (Instructor/Professor of Practice). The position begins August 1, 2027. The primary responsibilities include instructing undergraduate and graduate students in commercial applied voice. Depending on the candidate's background and expertise, other courses in performance, style, musicianship, songwriting, or directing a vocal ensemble in the commercial genre may be assigned. The annual teaching load will consist of applied lessons and academic courses, totaling a 24-hour workload. Additional duties include academic advising, maintaining scholarly/creative endeavors, student recruitment, and participating in department, college, and university service. The ideal candidate will be an engaging teacher-artist with expertise in current pedagogical principles, performance practice, and best practices in the field. The university fosters a Christ-centered environment and a collegial atmosphere.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in voice or related field is required for tenure-track.
  • A master’s degree in voice is required for non-tenure track.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
  • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University.
  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Completion of a background check satisfactory to the University.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (verified through E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching at the collegiate level is preferred.
  • Experience coaching male voices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing instruction in undergraduate and graduate commercial applied voice.
