About The Position

The Pre-Industry Skills Training Instructor is responsible for delivering pre-industry skills training to WorkFirst New Jersey (WFNJ) participants seeking entry into careers in Advanced Manufacturing, Construction Trades, and other high-demand industries. The instructor will provide classroom instruction, hands-on training, employability skills development, and career-readiness preparation designed to help participants successfully transition into occupational training programs, apprenticeships, employment, and attainment of industry-recognized credentials. This position supports the mission of preparing individuals facing barriers to employment for successful entry into workforce training pathways and sustainable careers. The instructor will collaborate closely with workforce development staff, case managers, One-Stop Career Center partners, employers, and community organizations to ensure participant success. This is a full-time, grant-funded position ending September 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of industry experience in advanced manufacturing, construction trades, industrial maintenance, logistics, transportation, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring adult learners.
  • Knowledge of workforce development programs and employment readiness principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic educational technology platforms.
  • Experience working with WFNJ, adult learners, justice-involved individuals, unemployed populations, or individuals with barriers to employment.
  • Industry-recognized credentials such as: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30; NCCER Certifications; GWO Basic Technical Training Certification
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities.
  • Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students and assisting them with adjusting to the intellectual environment and requirements of a college academic community.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners.
  • If certain conditions exist, this position requires you to have access to personal technological equipment and capabilities to perform your duties.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-industry skills training aligned with workforce development and WFNJ program requirements.
  • Teach foundational concepts related to Advanced Manufacturing, Construction Trades, and other industry sectors.
  • Provide instruction in workplace safety, tool identification, measurement, blueprint reading, manufacturing processes, and introductory trade skills.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning activities, simulations, and laboratory exercises.
  • Integrate employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and workplace expectations.
  • Incorporate digital literacy and technology skills relevant to modern workplaces.
  • Prepare participants for entry into occupational training programs, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes participant engagement and persistence.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, academic progress, and skill attainment.
  • Identify barriers to success and collaborate with case managers to provide appropriate referrals and support services.
  • Maintain regular communication with participants regarding expectations, progress, and program requirements.
  • Support participants' transition into occupational training, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and performance records.
  • Administer participant assessments and evaluate learning outcomes.
  • Assist in collecting documentation required for grant compliance and reporting.
  • Participate in program meetings, staff development activities, and workforce partnership initiatives.
  • Ensure instructional activities comply with college, grant, and NJDOL requirements.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
