About The Position

Air Methods is seeking an experienced Instructor Pilot / Check Airman to support training, evaluation, and standardization of our helicopter and fixed-wing pilots. This role is based in Denver at the FlightSafety/Watkins Training Center and plays a direct role in ensuring pilot proficiency, operational compliance, and safety across the enterprise. You will operate at the center of our training pipeline, delivering high-impact instruction in simulators, aircraft, and classroom environments while maintaining strict adherence to FAA regulations and company standards.

Requirements

  • Strong background in Part 135 operations with a focus on safety and standardization
  • Prior Instructor Pilot or Check Airman experience
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating (ATP preferred)
  • CFI / CFII (Rotorcraft) or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, evaluate, and mentor pilots at varying experience levels
  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations, training requirements, and operational compliance
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Commercial/Instrument rating required
  • Must meet total flight hour requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to implement training programs (initial and recurrent training)
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with all levels
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • CFI / CFII (Rotor wing) or willingness to obtain within one year

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Recommendation from a current Air Methods Flight Instructor or Check Airman preferred
  • ATP rating in aircraft category preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial, recurrent, transition, and upgrade training in classroom, simulator, and aircraft environments
  • Perform pilot evaluations, check rides, and operational competency assessments
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, company policies, and General Operations Manual standards
  • Identify, correct, and escalate safety or compliance issues in real time
  • Support development and execution of standardized training programs and curricula
  • Deliver specialized instruction including instrument, NVG, and differences training
  • Operate advanced aviation training devices and full-motion simulators
  • Partner with Chief Pilots, Assistant Chief Pilots, and Regional Leadership to maintain training quality and consistency
  • Maintain accurate pilot training records and submit required documentation in a timely manner
