About The Position

The Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences (formerly Communication Disorders) at West Texas A&M University is seeking a non-tenured, full-time (9 month) instructor. This role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including clinical supervision and education. The position begins as early as January 2027 for the spring semester. The instructor will teach at least two didactic courses and provide clinical instruction during the fall and spring semesters, with potential for summer teaching. This position focuses exclusively on teaching and clinical instruction.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology, speech and hearing sciences, communication disorders, or related field.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • Texas Department of Licensure and Regulation (TDLR) license in speech-language pathology or ability to obtain.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 professional years of clinical experience as a speech-language pathologist in any setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supervising and providing clinical instruction to graduate speech-language pathology/speech therapy students and clinical fellows in various settings with various populations.
  • Previous teaching and related education experience in any format or modality including classroom instruction, webinars, workshops, continuing education seminars, or professional in-services.
  • Expertise across service models, settings, and scope of practice, with a preference for candidates with a strong medical background including but not limited to adult dysphagia and pediatric feeding.
  • Versatility/willingness to work with a variety of special/unique adult and pediatric populations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive and professional environment for undergraduate and graduate students to learn.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in speech, language, and hearing sciences. Occasional course assignments may include graduate courses as permitted by accreditation and related regulations.
  • Educate and train graduate students in speech-language pathology in assigned practicum sites.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and related activities necessary for departmental and college operations.
  • Engage in university activities including service and scholarly activity. As a non-tenured position, individual publication and research is not expected. Collaboration on scholarly work including continuing education and presentations is strongly encouraged of all faculty.
  • Meet with students according to university policies and procedures.
  • Report to and complete assigned tasks from department chair/program director regarding accreditation and related initiatives/requirements.
  • Collaborate with peers and administration.
  • Support departmental, college-level, university, and system level mission and initiatives.
