About The Position

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Pediatric Hearing and Speech Technician to join their Pediatric Audiology team. This role supports children and families throughout their hearing care journey by preparing patients for hearing evaluations, assisting during diagnostic testing, coordinating scheduling, and supporting clinic operations. The position involves direct patient interaction and administrative responsibilities, ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, building relationships with families, and providing customer service in a healthcare setting. The technician will partner closely with Audiologists, prepare patients and families for appointments, escort patients, set up and clean testing rooms and equipment, schedule appointments, maintain patient information in electronic systems, answer patient questions, support daily clinic operations, and provide a welcoming experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Rehab PTA/COTA Patient Documentation (Intermediate)
  • Quality Assurance (Novice)
  • Audiology Patient Education (Intermediate)
  • Equipment Maintenance (Novice)
  • Experience Level: 3 years

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, education, childcare, rehabilitation, or customer service settings
  • Experience scheduling appointments or coordinating services
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Rehabilitation Technician, Clinical Assistant, Care Partner, or similar support role
  • Associate's degree or college coursework preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist Audiologists during pediatric hearing evaluations and related procedures
  • Prepare patients and families for appointments and testing activities
  • Escort patients and maintain efficient clinic flow
  • Set up, clean, and organize testing rooms and equipment
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-up visits
  • Maintain accurate patient and scheduling information in electronic systems
  • Answer patient and family questions regarding appointments and clinic processes
  • Support daily clinic operations and team workflow
  • Provide a welcoming, compassionate experience for patients and families
  • Provides support to speech language pathologists and audiologists through collection of data, assisting with researching topics, transportation of patients or other patient care support services.
  • Assists in safe provision of functional activities (leading hand washing, toileting/diaper changing, snack activities for pediatrics).
  • Provides support to speech language pathologist and teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing for implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Maintains supplies at acceptable levels.
  • Prepares treatment areas (set up group therapy rooms based on number of patients served and focus of therapy, set up individual therapy/assessment rooms based upon age and/or diagnosis, clean up/reorganize treatment rooms at the conclusion of service).
  • Provides basic screening services (Prepare infant or child for hearing screening, performs hearing screening and communicates results to family).
