About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno Honors College is an interdisciplinary academic community that challenges high-achieving students to engage deeply with ideas, explore diverse perspectives, and address complex local and global issues. Through innovative coursework, undergraduate research, leadership development, community engagement, and global experiences, the Honors College prepares students to become thoughtful scholars and engaged citizens. The Honors College seeks qualified part-time faculty to teach interdisciplinary Honors seminars in leadership and professional development, global perspectives, and related topics. Courses typically range from 1–3 credits and are designed to engage academically talented students in discussion-based, inquiry-driven learning that encourages critical thinking, reflection, collaboration, and the exploration of complex issues from multiple disciplinary perspectives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline (current graduate students are encouraged to apply).
  • Demonstrated expertise in the proposed course topic.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, mentoring, or professional engagement appropriate to the course content.
  • Ability to teach interdisciplinary, student-centered courses that appeal to students from a wide range of academic majors.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior college-level teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with honors education, seminar-style instruction, experiential learning, or high-impact educational practices.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Honors courses and seminars as assigned.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, discussion-based learning experiences for academically talented undergraduate students.
  • Maintain course materials, assess student learning, and submit grades in accordance with university policies.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and critical inquiry.
