About The Position

The Department of Business Administration & Economics at Coe College invites applicants for a per-course instructor to teach in our Aviation Studies program. The successful candidate will select one or both of the two following courses to teach in our Spring 2027 semester, January 19 to April 27, 2027. The days/time the course will be offered is negotiable.

Course options:

Applied Aerodynamics: Applied Aerodynamics examines the principles of aerodynamic forces and their impact on aircraft performance and limitations. This course covers a broad spectrum of topics, including longitudinal, lateral, and directional stability and control, as well as low-speed and high-speed aerodynamics. The course also explores how these principles relate to transport design characteristics. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have a solid understanding of aerodynamic principles and their application in the field of aviation. They will be able to analyze and interpret aerodynamic forces and their effects on aircraft performance, stability, control, and design, preparing them for further study or roles within the aerospace industry.

Aviation Law: Aviation Law provides a strong foundation for understanding the legal and regulatory framework governing civil aviation in the United States legal system, including FAA regulations regarding pilots and flight operations across all certificate levels. The course includes constitutional, administrative, liability, criminal, contract, and international law. It covers topics such as safe operating practices, airport operations, NTSB accident reporting, and procedures in the National Airspace System. Basic principles of tort law and risk management as related to aviation operations and organizations are covered.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in an applicable field is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree and significant professional/industry experience demonstrating equivalent competency will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Teach one or both of the following courses: Applied Aerodynamics or Aviation Law.
• Provide classroom instruction that helps prepare students for careers as professional pilots or in management positions in the aviation industry.
