About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking to build a robust candidate pool for part-time English Instructor positions. This job announcement is not an offer of employment but rather a means to collect applications for potential future openings. If a part-time position becomes available, CSN will review applications and invite qualified candidates for interviews. Teaching assignments are contingent upon factors such as student enrollment and departmental needs. No minimum course load is guaranteed, and teaching assignments are not guaranteed to be continuous or lead to full-time employment. CSN does not provide reimbursement for travel expenses.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in English or: Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Writing OR master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field: Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, and Technical Writing.
  • Experience teaching English at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Experience working with a diverse community.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using an online Learning Management System.
  • Two years full time teaching experience at a community college or university.
  • Experience working with multi-lingual students.
  • Experience working with at-risk students.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching English Composition (ENG 100, 101, 102) or Technical Writing (ENG 107).
  • Meeting and assisting students outside of class time.
  • Keeping up with mandatory trainings and professional development.
  • Collaborating with other faculty in developing courses and selecting textbooks.
  • Membership in department and college-wide committees.
  • Participating in special projects such as Summer Bridge Programs.
  • Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by course availability.

Benefits

  • $925.00 per lecture credit hour. Credits will vary by semester.
