About The Position

The UMMC School of Dentistry is seeking a dedicated and qualified individual for an open rank faculty position in the Dental Hygiene Department. This faculty role involves maintaining the highest academic standards, supporting student success, and contributing to the ongoing development and delivery of the Dental Hygiene curriculum. The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, aligning with the mission and values of UMMC. The Department of Dental Hygiene focuses on excellence in clinical education at the baccalaureate degree level. The Department operates undergraduate education and clinical training venues within the School of Dentistry.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from a CODA-accredited dental program or an equivalent foreign degree
Current MS Dental Hygiene license or must be obtained post-hire within 90 days
Proven experience working in the dental hygiene field.
Demonstrated skills in both traditional classroom teaching and online learning environments.
Ability to interpret and use student learning outcome data to enhance teaching and learning.
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Knowledge of current trends in the dental hygiene field and a commitment to remaining informed of advancements in the field.
Proficiency in word processing programs and internet applications.
Commitment to the School of Dentistry’s mission of excellence in patient care, teaching, research, and service.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree
Experience in the didactic and/or clinical instruction of dental students
Active involvement in professional organizations

Responsibilities

Develop and deliver course content according to approved syllabi.
Teach assigned classes as scheduled and ensure excellent attendance and punctuality.
Regularly assess student academic achievement and adjust teaching techniques based on feedback and best practices in education.
Participate in the creation, evaluation, and improvement of the department curriculum based on student learning outcomes and current industry trends.
Submit attendance, grades, and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Attend department meetings and contribute to program goals, curriculum review, and discussions on improving teaching methods and student outcomes.
Stay current with trends in the dental field and teaching methodologies by attending relevant professional development activities.
Participate in college and community service, including serving on committees and contributing to the broader mission of the School of Dentistry.
Exhibit professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to fostering a learning environment that promotes student growth and academic success.
Report to the Department Chair and communicate regularly on goals and objectives.
