About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) DART 2P11: Voice and Speech – D2, section 2. This course focuses on the effective use of voice to develop range, power, and honesty in speaking dramatic and poetic text. Topics include vocal anatomy, physical awareness, breath, embodiment and release of sound, resonance, and articulation. It is a half course, consisting of a workshop and lab, with 5 hours of contact time per week. Labs are scheduled for Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement and include scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration.

Requirements

  • MFA with specialization in voice for theatre and performance or graduate Voice Teaching Diploma or Certificate in a relevant, recognized Voice method.
  • Significant professional and/or scholarly contributions to voice work in theatre, voice teaching, or a relevant, related discipline.
  • Successful, relevant, theoretically-informed post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness will ideally consist of a complete teaching dossier. Previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent objective, systematically collected evidence will also be considered.
  • Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.
