About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill three instructor positions for DART 1F50 D1 (Fall/Winter), specifically Sections 1, 2, and 3. This course focuses on the fundamentals of acting for the theatre, emphasizing collaboration, play, embodiment, expression, and artistic intensity. Each full course section involves a lab component of 5 hours per week. The specific schedules are: Sec 1 – Friday 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 16:00; Sec 2 – Friday 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 16:00; Sec 3 – Tuesday 10:00 – 13:00, Thursday 10:00 – 12:00. Instructors are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course if the lecture is 2 hours per week or equivalent.

Requirements

  • PhD or MFA in acting for theatre or a relevant, related discipline
  • Training in recognized movement systems for theatre
  • Training in collaborative performance practices
  • Training in creative play for theatre
  • Significant professional and/or scholarly contributions to acting for theatre, including professional experience in acting for theatre
  • Successful, relevant, theoretically-informed post-secondary teaching experience
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (teaching dossier, previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent)
  • Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions

  • Evidence of expertise demonstrating how anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related principles are integrated into post-secondary teaching (e.g., scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training)
