About The Position

The University Honors Program (UHP) Instructor/Coordinator is committed to the support and success of honors students. This 12-month, full-time position will teach honors courses, advise honors students, and coordinate activities to enhance the co-curricular and social experiences of honors students, in collaboration with the UHP Director and other staff. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the UHP vision and goals of providing students an elevated collegiate experience through interdisciplinary scholarship, intellectual and creative engagement, and civic involvement. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • At least a Master's Degree in any field from an accredited institution
  • At least two years experience teaching at any level
  • High-level organization and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Experience with event planning or evidence of event planning skills
  • Experience with data tracking and/or evidence of data tracking skills

Responsibilities

  • Teach approximately 12 credits of honors courses every year, including Introduction to University Honors, Information Literacy & University Inquiry, and Honors Event Planning Seminar, with opportunities to co-teach Introduction to Honors Thesis and Honors Thesis & Defense with the Honors Director and/or propose honors electives related to area of expertise.
  • Participate in assessment activities to ensure honors curriculum and course offerings align with UHP mission.
  • Cultivate relationships with honors students to provide mentoring, advising, and academic support while regularly monitoring student academic progress.
  • Supervise 1-3 honors student workers.
  • Supervise development and production of student-produced Honors in Perspective magazine.
  • Serve as the faculty advisor for the University Honors Program Club.
  • Coordinate group advising activities, including the Bi-Annual Honors Meeting, with opportunities to develop specialized advising programs related to the candidate’s area of expertise (previous projects have included advising programs for students applying to graduate school and for nationally competitive scholarships/fellowships).
  • Coordinate major events in collaboration with other honors staff, including the annual Welcome Celebration each fall; serve as the primary planner for the annual honors fundraiser each spring.
  • Serve as a member of the Honors Advisory Committee and participate in admissions, scholarship selection, assessment, and data management activities, as needed.
