About The Position

Under general supervision, instructs students in transfer and non-transfer level Automotive Mechanics Technology (AMT) courses. Workload involves in-person teaching but may include various off-campus locations islandwide, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education classes using multiple teaching methodologies as assigned. Instructs and enforces student compliance with safety practices, chemical handling, hazardous waste disposal (used oil, coolants, brake fluid, batteries), and EPA/OSHA regulations. Ensures all federal, state and university safety regulations and practices are promoted and followed to ensure a safe learning environment. Establishes and maintains high standard shop organization practices (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across tools, tool rooms, vehicle bays, and instructional workstations. Oversees a scheduled preventative maintenance routine for heavy shop machinery, including lifts, tire changers, wheel balancers, brake lathes, air compressors, and diagnostic equipment. Ensures diagnostic scan tools, alignment machines, and electronic testing equipment are regularly calibrated and updated with current software datasets. Maintains an accurate inventory system to track specialty tools, hand tools, hardware, and consumable supplies. Prepares and revises course outcomes and participate in AMT curriculum planning and assessment. Prepares, revises, and assesses course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels. Plans, organizes and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments, including program assessment and reviews. Maintains a minimum of one office hour, in person, per week for each course taught. Conducts academic advising of students and assist in campus-related student activities. Mentors and advises students. Develops and maintains an approved program of professional self-improvement activities. Participates in department, college and community service, including but not limited to committee and recruitment activities as appropriate. Assists with/participates in campus related activities and in-service training. Engages in public service and professional/scholarly activities related to the profession. Demonstrates commitment to community college mission. Maintains current certifications, if applicable. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education, plus three (3) years related work experience, plus ASE (Automotive Services Excellence) Certification in the areas to be taught; OR Associate degree, plus five (5) years related work experience, plus ASE (Automotive Services Excellence) Certification in the areas to be taught; OR Fifteen (15) college credits, plus seven (7) years related work experience including training, plus ASE (Automotive Services Excellence) Certification in the areas to be taught.
Must meet minimum qualifications by the effective date of appointment.
