About The Position

Academic Faculty Contract, 171-day, Benefits Eligible This position is grant funded through 8/31/29. Employment is contingent upon funding. The position is being filled through an emergency appointment. Appointment to the role on a permanent basis is contingent upon meeting additional recruitment requirements This position will initially teach at the Carson Campus and will transition to full-time instruction at WNC’s new Advanced Manufacturing satellite campus in Fernley as that site becomes operational. This position may also include occassional teaching at partner high school locations. Position Overview The Instructor of Advanced Manufacturing provides high-quality instruction in advanced manufacturing, chemical operations; and related technical fields to support the region's workforce needs. This position develops and delivers hands-on, industry-aligned curriculum; ensures safe and effective operation of laboratory learning environments; collaborates with employers, secondary partners, and workforce programs; and contributes to the continuous improvement of WNC's advanced manufacturing programs. Instruction will initially occur at the Carson Campus, with a transition to the Fernley Advanced Manufacturing satellite campus once it is operational, and may also include occasional teaching at partner high school locations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes, chemical operations, engineering technology, and related industrial practices
  • Understanding of industrial safety procedures, including hazardous materials handling, PPE usage, and lock-out/tag-out
  • Ability to teach, model, and evaluate hands-on technical skills in a lab environment
  • Strong classroom and laboratory management skills
  • Ability do design curriculum, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with industry needs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners
  • Ability to support diverse learners using student-centered, inclusive teaching strategies
  • Associate's degree in Advanced Manufacturing, Industrial Controls, or closely related fields from an accredited institution and 6 months working in advanced manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Degree may be substituted with an additional two years of related professional experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach 15 equated load hours per semester through lectures, demonstrations, and lab-based instruction
  • Maintain required office hours and provide student advising and academic support
  • Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes; labs, skills evaluations, and performance-based assessments
  • Support diverse learners through student-centered teaching practices
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, curriculum materials, assessments; and hands'-on lab exercises
  • Update instructional content to align with workforce needs and industry standards
  • Participate in program review, learning outcomes assessment, and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure safe operation of labs; equipment, and industrial training environments
  • Enforce institutional and industry safety practices, including PPE requirements, hazardous materials protocols, and lock-out/tag-out procedures
  • Maintain equipment, materials, and lab facilities in operational condition
  • Collaborate with industry partners to ensure workforce alignment and to support internships, tours, and partnerships
  • Engage with secondary education partners to support dual-credit programs and workforce pathways
  • Participate ln outreach and student recruitment initiatives
  • Attend department, division; and college wide meetings
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with industry and teaching practices
  • Serve on committees and contribute to institutional initiatives
