About The Position

The Instructional Designer II (Temp/Casual) provides project-based instructional design and development support on an as-needed basis for Organizational Development (OD) initiatives. This role designs and develops high-quality in-person, virtual, self-directed, and on-demand learning assets aligned with instructional design best practices. This position is engaged for specific projects or defined deliverables when full-time staff capacity is limited or when specialized expertise is needed. The role collaborates with subject matter experts and OD staff to develop or revise learning content that promotes learner engagement, interactivity, and accessibility. Through the development process, this position maintains learning deliverables to ensure alignment with approved project goals and learning objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in instructional design.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resource development, technology management, curriculum & instruction, education, UX/UI design, or equivalent combination of education and experience in K-12 education, higher education, adult learning & literacy, or training and development.
  • Experience with digital learning environments and instructional technology tool integration.
  • Experience curating, researching, writing, proofreading, and editing instructional materials.
  • Experience working collaboratively with subject matter experts and trainers/facilitators to design and develop innovative, engaging, and accessible in-person, virtual, on-demand and/or self-directed learning assets that aligns with quality standards in the higher education environment.
  • Experience interacting with employees to provide support.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and revises professional development learning assets for assigned projects, working independently or with support as needed, to promote engaging learning across in-person, virtual, self-directed, and eLearning formats.
  • Applies instructional design best practices throughout the development lifecycle to align learning activities with learner needs and program goals.
  • Recommends instructional strategies and delivery methods based on analysis of learning objectives and audience needs.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and Organizational Development staff to design and develop instructional media assets, including video, audio, graphics, and eLearning components, that support learning goals.
  • Communicates effectively with subject matter experts and Organizational Development staff using face-to-face, digital, or remote channels (e.g., email, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Participates in project meetings as needed to clarify requirements, review progress, and address design considerations.
  • Incorporates stakeholder feedback into assigned deliverables within the agreed-upon project scope.
  • Manages assigned instructional design projects or defined components of larger initiatives from planning through delivery, including timelines, deliverables, and coordination with partners.
  • Communicates regularly with project stakeholders regarding progress, risks, and needed adjustments.
  • Coordinates work with subject matter experts, facilitators, consultants, and other team members to ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Evaluates learning activities, participant materials, and eLearning courses to ensure alignment with instructional design best practices, accessibility standards, and established quality guidelines.
  • Incorporates feedback, evaluation findings, and quality standards into revisions for assigned projects.
  • Stays current with emerging trends and practices in instructional design and eLearning, with particular attention to accessibility requirements, copyright considerations, and the use of open educational resources.
  • Performs other project-related duties as assigned.
