About The Position

Concordia University invites applicants to the part-time position of Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer supports the design, development, and maintenance of effective, learner-focused higher education courses including online and virtual deliveries. As a member of the Instructional Design Team in the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), the Instructional Designer works with Subject Matter Experts and departmental faculty to create an excellent student experience. This position works both independently and collaboratively to meet the mission of Concordia University and the CELT. This position reports to the Director of Instructional Design. This is a part-time (non-exempt) position, located on the Mequon, WI Campus. A portion of each week can be worked remotely after initial training.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply instructional design principles, learning theory, and educational technologies in the design and development of online and virtual courses
  • Knowledge of pedagogical and instructional design methodologies
  • Experience with one or more learning management systems as well as common software used in the design and development of online and virtual courses
  • Technical skills appropriate to position (e.g. learning management systems, designing for the web, Microsoft Office) and a willingness to continually learn new applications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to collaborate across networks and work effectively with in-person and virtual teams
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to converse with faculty about educational and technology issues
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic educational technology issues
  • Ability to effectively manage projects involving diverse individuals
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or higher preferred in instructional design, distance learning, adult education educational technology or a content area taught at Concordia
  • Experience designing and/or teaching online and virtual courses preferred
  • Experience developing digital learning content and interactive e learning; proficiency with Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise is desired
  • Certification in Quality Matters highly encouraged

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the instructional design process to ensure timely completion of projects, while maintaining a high-quality learner experience
  • Create course designs in alignment with current research and best practice in the field, as well as departmental quality indicators
  • Work directly with subject matter experts and university department chairs and program directors to design and develop courses in multiple content areas
  • Design courses that reflect the distinct mission of Concordia University
  • Create and edit video, images and graphics in multimedia pieces using e-learning authoring tools (occasionally)
  • Develop knowledge of third-party publisher resources and maintain courses utilizing these technologies
  • Collaborate with the instructional design team to create templates, models, processes and strategies that incorporate best practices in online learning
  • Perform quality reviews of revised or new courses and maintenance on master courses to be copied into live sections
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to effective teaching and learning, course design and distance learning
  • Manage revision projects that support course improvement in identified areas
  • Collaborate in team meetings, huddles, and departmental campus activities
  • Complete other related tasks as requested
