About The Position

Butler Metropolitan Housing Authority (BMHA) is looking for an Instructional Design Specialist who can turn important information into practical, engaging learning experiences that help employees succeed. If you enjoy partnering with subject matter experts, simplifying complex systems and processes, and creating training people actually use, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact in a mission-driven organization. In this onsite, 6-month contract role, you’ll shape onboarding, systems training, compliance, and process-based learning that supports day-to-day operations and helps teams deliver better service across the organization.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Training, Education, HR, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience designing training for adult learners in a professional setting.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting internal learning or L&D teams.
  • Familiarity with e-learning tools (Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe, etc.).
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience in nonprofit, public sector, or housing environments.
  • A relatable, engaging facilitation style.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain learning materials that help employees understand systems, policies, and processes.
  • Design and develop training in multiple formats (instructor-led training, e-learning, job aids, quick reference guides, videos, and documentation).
  • Apply adult learning principles to create clear, engaging, and practical training.
  • Develop learning objectives, outlines, storyboards, and assessments.
  • Create scenario-based knowledge checks and applied learning activities.
  • Partner with HR, subject matter experts, and leaders to gather content and understand training needs.
  • Support onboarding, systems training, policy, procedure, and compliance initiatives.
  • Update training materials as systems, processes, and regulations change.
  • Support the Learning Management System (LMS), including content organization and feedback review.
  • Use learner feedback to continuously improve training effectiveness.
