About The Position

The Instructional Design & Teaching Specialist supports faculty in designing and delivering high-quality, engaging, and accessible courses across both online and face-to-face formats. This position provides training, consultation, and guidance in pedagogy, instructional design, and best teaching practices for multiple modalities. The specialist collaborates with faculty to align course content with institutional standards while ensuring ADA, UDL, and RSI compliance. In addition to promoting effective teaching strategies, the role also supports the integration of multimedia, interactive tools, and assessments in Canvas, while serving as an administrator for the LMS and related instructional technologies. This is a 12-month on-campus position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Canvas LMS, including course development and administrative-level functions
  • Knowledge of educational theory and classroom instruction practices
  • Knowledge of online pedagogy, instructional design models, and best practices for digital teaching
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (ADA), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) requirements
  • Ability to design and develop engaging instructional materials, including multimedia and interactive learning activities
  • Ability to facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions for faculty and staff
  • Ability to provide effective consultation and constructive feedback on online course design and delivery
  • Ability to apply instructional design principles to align course content with learning objectives and institutional standards
  • Ability to quickly learn new software in detail; teach the use of the software to others; prepare software use documents as needed
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Ability to teach one-on-one and large groups equally effectively
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations, Reading and writing, Communicating with others, Operating assigned equipment, Handling varied tasks simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Distance Learning, Higher Education Teaching or in a related field
  • 2 years of teaching or training in a community college or university setting or related experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and consultation to faculty and staff on online pedagogy, instructional design, and effective teaching strategies
  • Provide one-on-one consultations and constructive feedback on online course design and delivery
  • Troubleshoot instructional technology issues and support faculty in effectively using digital tools
  • Design and facilitate learning sessions focused on teaching strategies and best practices in higher education
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and review online course content that aligns with learning objectives and institutional standards
  • Design and deliver workshops, presentations, and professional development sessions on online teaching tools and methods
  • Support the integration of multimedia, assessments, and interactive content in Canvas courses
  • Promote accessibility and ADA compliance in online course design and delivery
  • Serve as an administrator for the LMS and specialist for other online learning technologies
  • Encourage and regulate RSI initiatives for online courses
  • Maintain working knowledge of current Instructional Design Technology programs
  • Maintain current knowledge of ADA compliance guidelines and requirements as they relate to instruction
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate new instructional tools and technologies for potential adoption
  • Promote the implementation of adopted instructional tools
  • Identify institutional needs in relation to tool and technology use
  • Assist in planning and recommending equipment selection and design for instructional needs
  • Initiate, plan, and implement ideas for instructional improvement
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
