About The Position

The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It has a three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to improve teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders. Woodlawn Middle School educates students in grades 6 - 8. This is a full-time, salaried, instructional coach position responsible for supporting and providing instructional guidance of teachers to best prepare students, regardless of tested ability, for success in college. Responsibilities include coaching a team of 8-12 teachers of a content area focused on, but not limited to: lesson planning, instructional delivery, curriculum integration, designing formative assessments using the learning standards of the University of Chicago Charter School, analyzing assessment data, and participating in and leading professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree and at least 5 years of experience in education is preferred.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) is required.
  • Endorsement in English/Language Arts/Mathematics content area strongly preferred.
  • Qualified applicants will be an excellent teacher with proven experience enabling urban students to meet high expectations.
  • Reflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback, video-recording and coaching; collaborative, collegial, goal-oriented, mission-driven, accountable, responsible, self-managed, and self-motivated and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience serving in an urban school environment preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an instructional coach to a content area of teachers, engaging them in instructional coaching cycles (including lesson plan feedback and guidance, observation feedback and guidance, and debrief cycles).
  • Use the Danielson Framework as a coaching guide for teacher growth and development.
  • Lead and engage teachers in data cycles to best support instructional needs.
  • Serve on the Instructional Leadership Team.
  • Plan and lead professional development in response to coaching cycles and student data.
  • Support school leadership with planning and preparation for high-stake assessments (i.e. Illinois Assessment of Readiness, Northwest Evaluation Association).
  • Other duties as assigned.
