About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Instructional Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering to begin Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service with a focus on student success and research excellence. This is a fixed-term, non-tenure-track, nine-month position with initial appointments up to three years, renewable based on performance and institutional need. The role involves teaching courses for the BS and MS in Systems Engineering, with potential teaching areas including operations research, systems simulation, facility layout and logistics, computer-integrated manufacturing, systems engineering management, engineering computational tools, advanced multivariate statistics, and advanced modeling and simulation. Instruction will emphasize project-based and hands-on learning. The successful candidate will also contribute to Senior Design projects, teach general engineering courses, mentor students, and support experiential learning, curriculum development, ABET assessment, recruitment, and School service. This position requires regular on-campus presence.

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment).
  • Demonstrate preparation to teach Systems Engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and deliver applied, project-based, and hands-on engineering instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or ability to mentor Senior Design or other applied student projects.
  • Experience or ability to use computational or simulation tools in instruction.
  • Experience or ability to contribute to ABET assessment and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the BS and MS in Systems Engineering by teaching courses across relevant areas.
  • Teaching general engineering and other courses as needed by the School.
  • Mentoring students.
  • Supporting experiential learning, curriculum development, ABET assessment and continuous improvement, recruitment, and School service.
  • Contributing to Senior Design projects as assigned.
  • Emphasizing project-based and hands-on learning in instruction.
