About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Instructional Assistant Professor of Geology to begin Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service with a focus on student success and research excellence. This is a fixed-term, non-tenure-track, nine-month position with initial appointments up to three years, renewable based on performance and institutional need. The role involves teaching geology and earth science courses, including lectures and laboratories, and contributing to instruction in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics and Hydrology) and GIS in Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will also support other School programs, advise and mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, accreditation, and instructional laboratory activities, and participate in School service. This position requires regular on-campus presence. The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs and is expanding its faculty with this position being one of ten new permanent faculty hires.

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Geology, Geosciences, Earth Science, or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment)
  • Demonstrate appropriate academic preparation to teach geology and earth science lecture and laboratory courses

Nice To Haves

  • Academic preparation or teaching experience in hydrology, water resources, environmental geology, GIS, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or related areas supporting engineering curricula
  • Experience in laboratory or field-based instruction

Responsibilities

  • Teaching geology and earth science lecture and laboratory courses, including courses that fulfill University core curriculum needs
  • Contributing to instruction in Civil Engineering, including Hydraulics and Hydrology
  • Providing GIS-related instruction in Systems Engineering
  • Supporting teaching in the School’s other programs as needed
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Supporting curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, accreditation, and instructional laboratory activities
  • Participating in School service
