About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering with a specialization in Healthcare Systems Engineering to begin Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service, with a focus on student success and research excellence. This tenure-track, nine-month position includes a reduced teaching load to support research development. The primary responsibilities involve establishing an independent, externally funded research program in healthcare systems engineering, contributing to the BS and MS in Systems Engineering programs, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research and senior design projects. Additional duties include teaching Systems Engineering and other engineering courses, supporting School of Engineering initiatives such as recruitment, curriculum development, accreditation, and service, and collaborating with various partners on interdisciplinary research and applied projects. This role requires regular on-campus presence.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment)
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare systems engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof
  • Ability to contribute to undergraduate and graduate Systems Engineering instruction
  • Ability to mentor student research
  • Potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or ability to pursue external research funding
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate research
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines or with healthcare organizations
  • Areas of particular interest in healthcare include operations research and optimization; modeling and simulation; human factors and ergonomics; patient safety and quality; AI-assisted decision support and human-AI systems; analytics, including data-driven biomarker discovery; and healthcare systems resilience and reliability.

Responsibilities
