About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Instructional Assistant Professor of Dance to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor (fixed term; 9-month faculty position; over 3 academic years; possibility of renewal, depending on performance and/or institutional needs).

Requirements

• Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance with a focus on Flamenco and Folklorico from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrated success in teaching dance at the collegiate or professional level.
• Professional experience as a performer, choreographer, or dance artist is required.
• Evidence of effective teaching, strong communication skills, and engagement with students of various backgrounds is essential.
• Ability to acquire external funding.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to instruct multiple techniques such as ballet, modern, jazz, or contemporary is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduate dance courses, including technique, choreography, and theory, while maintaining excellence in studio and classroom instruction.
• Develop course materials, assess student learning, and provide mentoring and academic advising.
• Choreograph and/or direct departmental performances and participate in production activities.
• Contribute to curriculum development and program initiatives.
• Engage in departmental, college, and university service.
• Support student recruitment and retention efforts.
• Recruiting students and applying for external funding to support student activities.
