About The Position

Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Installer III installs and de-installs modular furniture systems as directed by Supervisor. This role may involve running small install and move projects. The Installer III is responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling furniture, equipment, and cartons on wheels to and from trucks, offices, and warehouses. They will load and unload trucks from loading docks, using ramps or lift-gates, and may assist in setting and offsetting goods on equipment. A key responsibility is to produce a quality install/move for the customer and to assist the process by communicating with supervisors, end-users/customers, and other crew members. Extreme care must be taken to avoid damaging goods or facilities during the install/move. This position also involves reporting and escalating job-related issues to the Supervisor, Lead Foreman, Project Manager, or Account Manager. Daily site work role assignments are typically obtained from the Supervisor, Lead Foreman, or Project Manager, with a dotted line to the Dispatcher and Operations Supervisor, and direct reporting to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English such as procedures, work instructions, blueprints, and timesheets.

  • Must be familiar with and able to train others using various moving equipment and its proper usage such as dollies, carts, pads, straps, pallet jacks, forklifts, ramps, lift gates, and all specialty equipment including but not limited to roll-a-lifts, Genie lifts safe jacks, J bars, etc., etc.
  • Must be familiar with basic systems furniture nomenclature and be able to identify upon sight, the major lines of the three major manufactures: Steelcase, Herman Miller, and Haworth.
  • Must also be able to identify the two major lines of Knoll product.
  • Must be familiar with project management reports such as Gantt and Pert charts and understand and interpret cut sheets.
  • Must be able to produce detailed inventories of all goods exposed to on O&I and install projects.
  • Must be able to accurately estimate medium sized move, install and or tech projects to determine manpower, trucks, and equipment necessary to complete the tasks required.
  • Must be able to lead small to medium sized installation projects without supervision.
  • Must own and bring to work every day, a complete set of Installer III level installation tools as defined in Corovan installation policy.
  • Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to install whiteboards/glass boards, trouble shoot electrical issues within the panels, install TV Monitors of all sizes.
  • Install Sit/Stand Arm Assemblies and height adjustable bases.
  • Must be able to adequately make custom cuts on worksurfaces including grommets.
  • Must be able to correctly install wall-track and wall-starts.
  • Must be able to adequately install cabinets and furniture to wall track according to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to produce red-line and stick drawings for the purpose of assembly or disassembly of systems furniture.
  • Has an understanding of space planning fundamentals and building code.
  • Must be able to conduct a customer pre-move meeting, post destination signage and communicate all standard move and install protocol to the customers.
  • Must be familiar with laboratory moving including packing of lab equipment, fine tune and detail work, PC disconnect and reconnect and must possess good customer service skills.
  • Must be familiar with the O&I (Office & Industrial) move process and understand the move labeling and directional signage.
  • Must complete Mover I & II, and Installer I, II & III Level Corovan University training and pass the written tests.
  • May also be required to Driver I or II classes if an approved and qualified driver.
  • High School Diploma and/or general education degree (GED); or three year’s related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid California driver’s license may be required.
  • If driving on behalf of the company, a valid driving record that meets the company’s insurance carrier’s requirements.
  • Three (3) years of installation /moving experience required, using various moving equipment and its proper usage such as dollies, carts, pads, straps, pallet jacks, forklifts, ramps, lift gates, and all specialty equipment including but not limited to roll-a-lifts, Genie lifts safe jacks and J bars.
  • May be required to obtain an asbestos training certification.

Responsibilities

  • Properly loads and unloads trucks from loading dock, using ramps or on lift-gates to protect goods being moved and supervises others doing the same.
  • Completes all paperwork accurately and neatly and turns into operations daily.
  • Maintains excellent customer service with customers, transportation, warehouse, sales, and operation teams.
  • Informs supervisor and warehouse manager immediately if an emergency arises.
  • Works cooperatively with members of the crew.
  • Is courteous, helpful, and professional to all existing and potential customers.
  • Respects rules at each customer site.
  • Follows all confidentiality rules regarding visible products, services, or documents at a customer’s move site.
  • Follows all security rules for the company and assigned customers.
  • Trains Installer I and II employees under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Performs work with quality, efficiency, and safety at all times.
  • Abides by all safety rules, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Drives forklifts and bobtails if qualified safely.
  • Reports any unsafe or dangerous requests from customers to senior management.
  • Signs timesheets daily signifying start, meal periods, and end time.
  • Completes other documentation accurately and turns it in by the required time.
  • Drives trucks up to and including Class A vehicles if qualified and approved driver.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
