GFT is seeking a Roadway Inspector to join our Construction Services team in New York, NY. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity to lead roadway related transportation projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the field. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s (BS) in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Valid NICET II Certification
  • Demonstrated past experience as a Chief Engineer on NYSDOT projects
  • Or qualifying relevant experience
  • Completion of the NICET Equivalency Form (typically used for recently retired NYSDOT Engineer-In-Charge personnel)
  • 1+ years of experience in transportation construction inspection
  • Willing to work nights
  • Prior experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, or Metro-North Railroad projects
  • Valid driver’s license
  • OSHA 30-hour safety training certification

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Project Management Procedures (PMPs) and Project Management Guidelines (PMGs) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support daily observation of contractor operations on roadway and bridge construction projects.
  • Assist as a field contact for the client and project team.
  • Coordinate with field staff, including inspectors, community liaisons, and office engineers.
  • Review construction schedules, including baseline schedules and updates, with guidance from senior staff and the client.
  • Perform field inspections and assist with construction testing activities.
  • Support the preparation and review of construction change orders.
  • Assist with preparing weekly and monthly project reports.
  • Review payment vouchers, manning reports, payroll certifications, and other labor documentation from the contractor.
  • Record project progress meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Support site safety efforts, permit compliance, and coordination with adjacent projects.
  • Observe and report on contractor compliance with safety, health, and quality requirements.
  • Assist the contractor and project team in reducing impacts on the public during construction.
  • Log contractor submittments, RFIs, and shop drawings, and coordinate responses with designers.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including preparing punch lists with the owner.
  • Support the project team in resolving schedule and budget challenges.
  • Track project personnel information, including timesheets and leave records, as needed.
  • Assist with cost-to-complete analyses.
  • Use spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling software to support project management activities.
