About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Roadway Inspector III to join their Transportation team in the Murray, UT office. This role is for an experienced construction inspector who will play a key role in delivering transportation infrastructure projects throughout Utah. The inspector will work directly in the field, ensuring roadway and infrastructure improvements are constructed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on roadway construction inspection experience, strong attention to detail, and effective communication skills with contractors, project managers, engineers, and agency representatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging transportation projects, develop technical expertise, and take on increasing responsibility while supporting Utah's infrastructure programs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalency through a combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments.

Nice To Haves

  • SRDTT Concrete Testing Certification or the ability to obtain the certificate within 6 months.
  • Prior UDOT construction inspection or materials testing experience.
  • Previous experience working with a municipal, county, or state transportation agency.
  • Experience performing construction materials testing and quality control documentation.
  • Familiarity with roadway, bridge, and transportation construction projects.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily field inspections of roadway and transportation construction activities to verify work is being completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor contractor performance and construction quality, identifying issues and providing timely feedback to the project team.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily inspection reports, field documentation, quantities, photographs, testing records, and other project records.
  • Observe and document construction activities involving roadway, earthwork, drainage, concrete, asphalt, utilities, structures, traffic control, and related transportation improvements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, engineers, project managers, testing personnel, and agency representatives to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
  • Perform and document measurements and quantity tracking to support project payment and progress reporting.
  • Participate in materials testing, quality assurance activities, punch lists, project closeout, and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor construction progress and conformance with quality, performance, specification, and code requirements.
  • Identify potential construction issues early and communicate recommendations to the project team to help prevent delays, rework, and quality concerns.
  • Review construction activities and documentation for compliance with contract requirements and applicable UDOT and project standards.
  • Support project managers and resident engineers with field documentation, contractor coordination, progress tracking, and project administration.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide field updates regarding construction progress, quality, safety, schedule, and outstanding issues.
  • Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and knowledge sharing to less experienced inspectors and field staff.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders while representing AECOM professionally in the field.
  • Exercise sound judgment and independently organize daily inspection activities and priorities to meet project deadlines.
