Requirements

  • Actively pursuing or currently holding relevant fuels certifications, with a minimum qualification of Gas Technician (G2).
  • Maintain or work toward the technical endorsements needed to inspect regulated fuels equipment in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Bring at least five years of experience in the gaseous fuels industry, supported by a strong working knowledge of the Technical Standards and Safety Act and associated fuels regulations (210/01, 212/01, 213/01, 215/01, 216/01, 217/01).
  • Demonstrate proficiency with fuels-related codes and standards, including CSA B149 series, the Liquid Fuels Handling Code, and CSA Z662 for oil and gas pipeline systems.
  • Apply strong analytical skills when conducting inspections, completing incident investigations, determining root causes, and assessing risks within regulated environments.
  • Use business systems to document findings, maintain accurate compliance records and support consistent service delivery.
  • Daily travel required; therefore, a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and a driving record suitable for fieldwork are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications are considered an asset including Oil Burner Technician (OBT2), Liquid Propane or Petroleum Mechanic (PMH/PM2/PM3).

Responsibilities

  • Promote Public Health: Conduct inspections of fuel facilities, equipment and other regulated sites to confirm compliance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act and its associated regulations.
  • Respond to Safety Incidents: Attend and inspect incidents involving fires, explosions, carbon monoxide exposure, and public complaints to determine root causes and recommend actions that reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
  • Support Compliance Outcomes: Issue orders and provide guidance to stakeholders based on the interpretation and application of fuels regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Maintain Accurate Regulatory Records: Document inspection findings, incident details, and compliance data in TSSA systems to support risk-based decision-making and accurate reporting.
  • Contribute to Consistent Service Delivery: Plan and schedule daily inspection activities, prepare reports within established timelines, and support audit inspections in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Engage Industry and the Public: Provide clear, timely information to certificate holders, contractors, and members of the public to build awareness of regulatory requirements and encourage safe practices.
  • Support a High-Performing Team: Share technical knowledge, participate in training activities, and collaborate with colleagues to promote a cooperative and safety-focused work environment.
