About The Position

Perform technical inspection of production parts for conformance to quality standards, using written specifications, fixed or variable, measuring instruments, and appropriate inspection equipment. This role involves preparing parts for analysis and hardness testing, verifying hardness tester accuracy, recording inspection results, and ensuring parts meet specifications. The technician will also be responsible for preparing metallographic samples, performing general shop duties, and reviewing customer specifications for accurate certification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of basic math principles.
  • A basic understanding of weights and measures.
  • Good CRT skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Practical heat treating knowledge and familiarity with general specifications is helpful.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in heat treating or a lab is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare parts to be analyzed or hardness tested using equipment such as cut-off saws, mounting presses, polishers, hand and bench grinders.
  • Check hardness of material and parts using equipment such as Rockwell, Brinnell, micro hardness and Equotip hardness testers.
  • Verify hardness testers for accuracy using test blocks and calibration equipment.
  • Record inspection results on tags, logs, and graphs, and prepare SPC data and chart as needed.
  • Transport parts using forklift, pallet jacks and carts to prepare them for hardness checking.
  • Lift and carry production parts to inspection area.
  • Use microscopes to measure depth of nitride case, uniformity and structure.
  • Measure total case depth using microscope to ensure that the parts are within specification.
  • Provide record of rejections on logs and tag parts with rejection tags.
  • Clean inspection and related equipment and keep area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Measure dimensions of production parts or diameters of hardness indentations using micrometer, calipers, or scopes.
  • Determine necessary inspection points and frequencies by referring to customer's documents and Paulo documents and using judgment and experience when not defined by the specifications or customer.
  • Initiate quality control procedures that will benefit overall quality and productivity.
  • Prepare metallographic samples for microstructure evaluation.
  • Perform various general shop duties such as loading and unloading production parts into bins or baskets.
  • Review customer specifications and document to ensure accurate certification process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
