About The Position

This is an internal agency opportunity for current employees of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The position is within the Division of Consumer Services, Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection. The headquarters for this position is negotiable within Orange County. The role involves conducting inspections on amusement rides, certifying them for public use, testing equipment for compliance with Florida Statutes, issuing stop-operation orders, and conducting re-inspections. It also includes inspecting aerial adventure courses and ziplines, creating invoices, collecting fees, completing inspection documentation, and verifying insurance coverage. The position requires reviewing and preparing documentation for accident reports, educating new companies on inspection laws, submitting travel documentation, and assisting in training new hires.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical inspection, building maintenance and repair, or in the construction, installation, inspection, maintenance or repair of mechanical or amusement devices, rides, or attractions.
  • College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours per year up to a maximum of three (3) years of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in building construction or maintenance, mechanics, plumbing, mathematics, physical science, electrical repair or maintenance and/or engineering.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
  • Successful applicants must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.
  • Must reside in required county(ies) throughout employment in this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Employees appointed to positions involved in amusement device inspection under authority of Section 616.242, Florida Statutes, must obtain Level I certification from the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) within 36 months of appointment and must maintain certification throughout their period of employment with the Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection.

Responsibilities
