Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Ability to maintain motivation to achieve goals while dealing with challenges.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat DC.

Nice To Haves

  • experience working as an ophthalmic assistant in a supervised setting 0-1 year preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial patient screening by documenting the chief complaint, ocular, family, and medical history, pain assessment, medication list, allergies, and visual acuity.
  • Performs subjective refractions, lensometry, tonometry, confrontational visual field testing, pupil and extraocular muscle assessments, and proper instillation of diagnostic drops.
  • Performs advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including dark adaptation, color vision testing, electroretinography (ERG), electrooculography (EOG), and visual field testing, as appropriate.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels of medical and ophthalmic supplies within examination and testing areas.
  • Ensures instruments, equipment, and examination/testing rooms are cleaned and maintained in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, including the appropriate identification, handling, and administration of diagnostic medications.
