About The Position

Performs a key role in specialized ophthalmic diagnostic testing to support the diagnosis and prognosis of hereditary retinal degenerations. This position requires patient care.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Experience working as an ophthalmic assistant in a supervised setting (0-1 year preferred)
Knowledge of medical terminology
Strong patient/customer service skills
Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions
Ability to maintain motivation to achieve goals while dealing with challenges
Excellent problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat DC

Responsibilities

Conducts initial patient screening by documenting the chief complaint, ocular, family, and medical history, pain assessment, medication list, allergies, and visual acuity.
Performs subjective refractions, lensometry, tonometry, confrontational visual field testing, pupil and extraocular muscle assessments, and proper instillation of diagnostic drops.
Performs advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including dark adaptation, color vision testing, electroretinography (ERG), electrooculography (EOG), and visual field testing, as appropriate.
Maintains appropriate inventory levels of medical and ophthalmic supplies within examination and testing areas.
Ensures instruments, equipment, and examination/testing rooms are cleaned and maintained in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, including the appropriate identification, handling, and administration of diagnostic medications.
