SUMMARY Oversee the planning, design, technical execution, evaluation, procurement, supervision, cost control, and technical follow-up for modifications, repairs, and execution of small and medium-sized construction projects, as well as portions of similar work within large-scale projects. To do this, the incumbent must promote responsible chemical management in accordance with industry best practices and principles, ISO 9002, and current government regulations. Additionally, they must enforce the collective agreement and company policies.

Requirements

University degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, or other relevant engineering field.
Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in an industrial environment using a continuous process (e.g., chemicals, pulp and paper, petroleum products, wastewater treatment).
Good knowledge of laws, standards, and regulations applicable to the industrial sector.
Familiar with the SAP system.
Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.
Hold or commit to obtaining a construction site health and safety certificate (ASP card).
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
Good command of the MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

The engineering group participates on demand and by assignment in plant projects that are technical in nature regarding design and processes, and provides technical support during emergency and major plant situations.
In general, respond to requests for technical services that have received approval or to other assignments determined by management. In the case of emergencies or critical situations that may arise at the plant, work independently or, if necessary, based on informal requests.
Conduct feasibility studies for plant expansion and new products.
Research and evaluate methods for modifications and improvements to the plant, as well as for approved construction work taking place at the plant.
Prepare necessary quotes and specifications.
Obtain proposals for procurement.
Prepare cost estimates.
Submit proposals, including "ACTs" for management approval.
Visit similar facilities and equipment manufacturers for technical evaluation.
Issue and send purchase requests for equipment and services.
Liaise with the engaged consultant to ensure project objectives are met.
Ensure the availability of workers and the necessary labor for the completion of the work.
Maintain records, forecast project expenses, prepare reports, and reduce project costs.
Review and approve invoices for payment.
Develop, implement, and maintain work schedules.
Supervise work on site, review all quotes and specifications.
As part of site supervision, ensure that work conforms to specifications and is carried out according to sound practices.
Visit manufacturers' fabrication shops to inspect equipment under fabrication.
Supervise and control personnel under their responsibility.
Integrate safety and environment within the plant to ensure personnel safety and protect the environment at both the design and construction work levels.
Participate in establishing the spare parts inventory.
Follow up on warranties for work and purchased equipment.
Contribute to the general operation of the plant by sharing daily observations on plant operations, making recommendations independently, and providing direct technical support when and where necessary.
May be required to use available computerized facilities for work execution or to assist others in completing their tasks.
May be required to continuously maintain up-to-date technical records.
Complete assigned projects in accordance with sound practices and current technical standards, while respecting deadlines and allocated budgets.
Ensure high quality of work for modifications and new installations through the management of personnel involved in design, inspection, and supervision.
Consider safety, maintenance, and environmental control issues in all engineering-related stages.
Track project schedules, budgets, and objectives, and produce a progress report for each project for which they are responsible.
Coordinate the activities of consultants, contractors, and other plant departments.
Stay updated on the latest technical developments in their field of expertise, as well as in materials, practices, and technical principles in general.
Provide technical support to maintenance, operations, and shipping departments.
Perform all other related tasks.
