Infrastructure Engineering Manager

Redwood Trust Inc•Englewood, CO
•$180,000 - $200,000

About The Position

The Infrastructure Engineering Manager is responsible for technology design, selection, and maintenance aligned with business initiatives. The role leads the team operating Redwood’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure, endpoint fleet, and network, and serves as an escalation point for day-to-day operations. The position delivers fault-tolerant, cost-effective, scalable technology solutions across development, test, and production environments, and owns the disaster recovery and business continuity capability supporting them. Redwood is consolidating on Azure, moving from manually built infrastructure toward code and pipelines, standardizing the endpoint fleet, and shifting routine operational work to automation and managed services. The team includes internal engineers, contractors, and vendor resources. The manager determines which work to build, buy, or hand off; collaborates with security engineering, application development, and data teams; participates in overall technology planning; and owns the working relationship with the Azure managed services partner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree related to Computer Science, Business, or Information Systems preferred, or equivalent experience and certifications.
  • Ten or more years leading design and support of enterprise-level infrastructure, including at least two years leading a team or acting as a technical lead with delivery accountability.
  • Strong Azure experience across networking, identity, compute, and governance; ideally including a migration or consolidation effort.
  • Expertise in operational stability and uptime, disaster recovery and business continuity, capacity and performance management, and data center migrations.
  • Depth in Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra ID, virtualization, storage, and enterprise networking.
  • Demonstrated experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD, and judgment to sequence automation work by value.
  • Endpoint management experience with Intune across both Windows and Mac.
  • Experience managing vendors and managed service providers, including holding them to service levels.
  • Familiarity with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks, and experience managing a project or serving as a project team lead.
  • Expert scripting knowledge in PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
  • Ability to set and change priorities among multiple competing constituencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including vendor negotiation and plain explanations of outages, risk, and cost to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in financial services, mortgage, or another SOX-regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with Fortinet, SASE, or modern network security architectures.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, data platform infrastructure, or supporting AI workloads on Azure.
  • Experience managing offshore or nearshore engineering teams.
  • Azure certifications such as Solutions Architect Expert or Administrator Associate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the infrastructure engineering team, including internal staff and contract or nearshore engineers, and set standards for documentation and handoff.
  • Provide design and configuration management leadership across infrastructure domains, delivering fault-tolerant, cost-effective, and scalable solutions.
  • Own the Azure environment, including landing zones, subscription and tenant governance, networking, identity integration, compute, storage, and cost management.
  • Drive infrastructure-as-code and pipeline-based delivery using Terraform or Bicep with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions so environments are reproducible and changes are reviewable.
  • Operate the remaining on-premises and hybrid footprint, including Windows Server, virtualization, storage, and network, and lead decisions about what migrates and what is retired.
  • Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity, including regular restore testing and documented recovery objectives agreed with the business.
  • Manage the endpoint program across Windows and macOS through Intune, covering imaging, patching, configuration baselines, and hardware standardization.
  • Oversee monitoring, alerting, capacity, and performance planning, and reduce recurring manual work through automation.
  • Partner with security engineering to implement infrastructure-layer controls, support SOX IT general controls and audit evidence requests, and meet vulnerability and patching commitments on schedule.
  • Manage vendor relationships, licensing, renewals, and a portion of the infrastructure budget, presenting cost and risk tradeoffs behind renewal decisions.
  • Maintain documentation, standards, and service management discipline across change, incident, and problem management.
  • Establish sustainable off-hours and on-call coverage for the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
