About The Position

The City of Kingman is seeking an experienced Information Technology Administrator to join its IT team. This role is crucial for maintaining the high availability and performance of the city's servers, networks, and data infrastructure. The administrator will be responsible for managing system backups, security policies, and providing technical support. This position operates with a high degree of independence and discretion, handling critical system upgrades, coordinating technical tasks, guiding city-wide computing plans, and offering reliable, customer-focused support to all city staff.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field.
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible information technology experience.
  • At least three (3) years of professional systems administration experience involving enterprise servers, networks, virtualization, cloud technologies, security, or related infrastructure.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Valid CompTIA Server+ Certification.
  • Ability to possess and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance and requirements.
  • Thorough working understanding of general IT concepts and technologies, including cloud computing, virtualization, server platforms, and security.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Distributed File System (DFS), DFS Replication, and NTFS permissions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise software, such as SQL databases, web services, email systems, and associated security protocols.
  • Working knowledge of modern authentication platforms like SAML, OIDC, and FIDO2/WebAuthn.
  • Familiarity with storage architecture, including SAN, NFS, NAS, deduplication, and data optimization technologies.
  • Proficiency in type 1 and 2 hypervisors for resource assignment and performance optimization.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and collaborate effectively in group settings with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts—such as firewalls, VPNs, routing, and switching.
  • Understanding of application programming interfaces (APIs) for server and database communication.
  • Ability to maintain strong documentation with meticulous detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance actions, including system backups, establishing system recovery procedures, and maintaining offsite backup storage.
  • Monitor system and network performance and equipment, verifying system functionality, and performing upgrades as necessary.
  • Support, configure, and maintain servers, the network, data, and associated equipment to ensure high availability.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide critical support for network and system-related issues, adjusting schedules as needed for early mornings, evenings, nights, holidays, or weekends.
  • Coordinate and manage diverse technical support tasks while delivering excellent customer service to diverse audiences across all city departments.
  • Provide direct support for technical issues, troubleshoot problems to final resolution, and conduct continual cross-training with other IT personnel.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality and exercise a high degree of discretion and judgment when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Assist and guide staff within the IT department and city-wide in formulating short- and long-term plans regarding city computing needs.
  • Assist in the recommendation and implementation of server policies and standards while ensuring strict adherence to security procedures.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with city policies and procedures, following safety policies and practices, working in a safe manner, and promptly reporting any unsafe activities or conditions.
  • Ensure operational continuity through regular attendance as an essential function of the role.
  • Serve on various employee or other committees as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as required and handle special assignments as requested by leadership.
